KLANG & RAUM artists

Bruno Weil, Artistic Director

Bruno Weil, the founder and Artistic Director of KLANG & RAUM, has a worldwide reputation as a specialist for music of the Viennese school. Performances with the most significant orchestras and unnumbered recordings document his great artistic authority. One of Hans Swarowsky's last students, Bruno Weil became Germany's youngest Generalmusikdirektor in Augsburg, a position which he soon assumed in Duisburg. In 1997 he was elected "Conductor of the Year". Since 2003, he has been Artistic Director of the Cappella Coloniensis. Furthermore, a long-term collaboration with the Canadian Tafelmusik Orchestra has resulted in benchmark-setting CD productions. For his recordings of Joseph Haydn's London symphonies, Bruno Weil was awarded his 5th ECHO Klassik in 2010.

Tafelmusik Orchestra

The Tafelmusik Orchestra, Canada's most famous orchestra on period instruments, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008. In 1981, Jeanne Lamon took up the musical leadership of the Toronto-based ensemble. All orchestra members are specialists for historically informed performance, and play on original instruments or modern copies. Their vivid, passionate, and creative playing has earned them a worldwide reputation and international awards. In February 2009, they gave their Carnegie Hall debut in New York to a sold-out house. Since 1993, Tafelmusik has been an integral part of KLANG & RAUM, where it performs as the orchestra in residence, conducted by Bruno Weil.

Tölzer Knabenchor

Since its foundation in 1956, the Tölzer Knabenchor has been under the direction of its founder, conductor and voice teacher Prof. Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden. Meanwhile, more than 200 boys from Munich and the Upper Bavarian region are being taught by him ad his six assistants in the choir's Munich studios. An integral part of Prof. Schmidt-Gaden's concept is the joy of singing; creativity, spontaneity, and not least voluntary self-discipline are further key elements.
Different groups and soloists of the Tölzer Knabenchor participate in more than 200 concerts and opera performances per year almost all over the world. Central to their repertoire is the historically informed performance of baroque and classical sacred music, which the Tölzer Knabenchor has been presenting at KLANG & RAUM since 1993.
